Best Places to Visit in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Uttarkashi, meaning Kashi of the north, is a town located in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, India. Uttarkashi town is headquarters of the district. Uttarkashi is also known as Saumya Kashi. Uttarkashi is a Hindu religious place for spiritual and adventurous tourism. Maneri Dam

Built on the Bhagirathi River, Maneri is a concrete gravity dam and one of the beautiful places of sightseeing in Uttarkashi. The dam is surrounded by lofty mountains and lush green alpine meadows, making it an absolutely charming place to relax and unwind. This place is famous for day trips and picnics. Maneri Dam diverts the water of Bhagirathi into a tunnel and supplies to Tiloth Power Plant and Maneri Bhali Hydroelectric Project.

Gangotri Temple

Located at an altitude of 3,100mts, Gangotri Temple, the highest temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is one of the four Chota Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. Goddess Ganga is the personification of the revered Ganga River. The peaceful white temple is surrounded by Deodar and pines and the Greater Himalayan Range. The holy river Bhagirathi, which is one of the two head-streams of Ganga, flows alongside Gangotri Temple.

Dodital Dayara Pass Trek

Shakti Temple

Vishwanath Temple

Believed to be built by Parashuram, the Lord Vishwanath temple in Uttarkashi houses the Kedar Khanda or Skanda Puran. Later, in 1857 Maharani Khaneti renovated the temple. The Shivlinga which is 60 cm tall and is 90 cm in circumference draws many Shiva devotees from across the country.

Kuteti Devi Temple

The Kuteti Devi Temple, regarded highly by the people of Uttarkashi, and the guardian deity of some major clans here, is situated close to the Vishwanath Temple, and is known to have been established by the son in law and daughter of King Kota, who discovered the Goddess's material reincarnation in the form of three stones.

Nelong Valley

The cold deserted mountain area of Nelong valley looks like a replica of Tibet in terms of its geography. Since this valley falls under the Gangotri National Park, the travelers are not allowed to have an overnight stay, within the 25 km area between Bhairavghati and Nelong.
